Below is an interview with Tessa Palafu, Senior Implementation Research Assistant at our Implementation Research Division. Tessa recently celebrated two years working at The Baker Center!
How did you first become interested in mental health?
I have seen the impact that poor mental health and lack of access to services has on people’s quality of life, which inspired me to work in the mental health field.
What made you want to work at The Baker Center?
During Junior year of my undergraduate career, I started working on various research projects. However, balancing school, work, and research activities became difficult. Working at The Baker Center allowed me to dedicate more of my time to producing quality research products. Additionally, I valued The Baker Center’s, and specifically the Implementation Research Division’s, focus on promoting equitable health outcomes for children and underserved populations.
What is your favorite part about working at The Baker Center?
My favorite part of working in the Implementation Research Division at The Baker Center is partnering with community organizations. The knowledge I have gained from sitting with community and listening to their stories is invaluable. It has shaped the work I do and inspired me to continue doing community-based research.
