Research
For more than two decades, Dr. Holt has studied the neural basis of abnormalities in emotion processing and social cognition in psychotic and related disorders, using neuroimaging and behavioral methods. Recently, these studies have included high resolution (7 Tesla) fMRI of cortical responses to social information and have revealed the detailed organization (in columns) of this activity. In addition, for the past ~ 10 years, Dr. Holt and her group have also investigated neural and behavioral markers of risk for serious mental illnesses, focusing primarily on correlates of subclinical psychotic symptoms, and developed and tested interventions that may reduce this risk. These interventions include prevention-focused, resilience-enhancing programs that can be delivered in-person or remotely, via videoconferencing or virtual reality.
